You know, as hard as this year has been, I'm starting to realize in disguise? It's been one of most enlightening and useful (for lack of a better term) years I've had in a long time. I think I needed it. I wasn't being challenged enough and as a result I wasn't going anywhere. I was comfortable and I discovered I don't like "comfortable". Isn't that weird? It wasn't helping me move forward at all. I had to do a lot of shaking and breaking, but I feel a lot..."freer" now or something. I honestly don't even know how to describe how I feel right now, which means it's something new to me and that's great. I need things I can't explain to distract me from ripping them apart. It's a terrible habit I have, but it's one I like. Learning when to use it is my problem, but that's another post. The point is I feel like I'm really growing up now. This isn't to say I didn't think I was growing up before, but with ridding myself of what I've basically determined is "silly stuff" I'm starting to see the results and I'm finally liking where they're going. Took you long enough, Shiera.
I know 2009 hasn't been the most magical year for anyone I know, but I hope everyone finds something that's been beneficial to you on your life quest over these past 11 months. I really feel like some great things are on the way. They may not be the things you're looking for exactly, but it's a start.
...of course, this feeling could be my stomach telling me it's hungry, but I'm pretty sure it's good things.

Well, I used a lot of the suggestions that came my way from that post the other day! I was pretty pleased with the turnout of readers for that question, I must admit. I guess it's because you hear a lot that people don't give a darn about history in this country, if depressing yearly polls from the Dominion Institute mean anything, but it's clearly not the case among my livejournal followers. You guys are great!
I had to do a general sweep that involved a good range of places, professions, backgrounds and time periods, so you know, not everyone's favorite author is going to be in there but I sure did like the range in suggestions. Looking at it now I wish I had someone from the NWT (not one! for shame) and New Brunswick. Stompin Tom is from New Brunswick but he's also sort of from everywhere. I could have put the Irvings in there, I think they control history in NB as well as anything else.
I was all crazed out with strep throat while I did this, but listening to Radiolab shows and a burning passion for Canada I guess(?) kept me going. You can find the image in today's National Post, along with an article about the Historica/Dominion merger! Interesting stuff.

So Hamlet and I were just chatting and I was slobbering all over her like a retard as usual and it made me think about how awesome it is that behind all the beautiful artwork by all the different artists I like, there is this living breathing talking person with a body and a mind and everything.
It probably sounds really dumb but I guess I always seem to see artist so separately from their work, especially if they draw creepy dirty sexy things. Generally speaking when I see some art on DA or w/e and I see the artist's DA ID I think to myself "Yeah that's what I figured you looked like lol" since I find some people are rather, mmm, I don't know, transparent? That's not quite the word I'm looking for but it's kind of WYSIWYG with their art and their personas I guess.
But then you get people like ![[info]](http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif) zoot_lives and hortaya and honestly it's so hard to look at their (superb) works and imagine that there's actually a human being behind it because that human being would have be like; super human to express themselves in such a wonderful and disturbing and erotic way. And when they post photos from their life or of themselves I'm like HOLY SHIT THATS WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE or w/e and my mind is totally blown because they just look like regular human beings and then I think to myself "well duh what did you think they were" and there's no proper answer to that lol
Like when I saw Hamlet for the first time I was like HOLY FUCK THIS HOT STYLISH BABE DRAWS ALL THAT HOT SPACE SEX ACTION WHAAAAAAAAAT and it's like this crazy connection that my brain fails to make! This goes for a lot of people, like romanshoubu too and stuff durrrrr I duno, it's pretty awesome.
Anyway this rant was pretty useless I just wanted to express how amazing it is that there are people behind drawings and how absolutely mind-blowing it is to make the connection between the work and the mind/personality behind it Hmmmm I can't quite find the right words to describe what I mean but it's just really cool to me to get a peek into the person/life of someone whose works I covet and eyemolest on a regular basis and remember that all of that personality and life experiences goes into producing the artwork. And sometimes it can be totally mind-blowing or awe-inspiring... this goes for pro-artists too but I guess with people on the Internet it's easier to feel like you know someone since you guys interact on some level. Like queenvera's workspace photos made me so curious about her and made me feel like I got to know her work a little more in a really... really creepy way ok I'll stop writing before someone calls the cops on me lkdjAKFKAIWITGblll IM A LITTLE CRAZY FROM A LOT OF PAIN FROM THIS STUPID SWINE FLU SHOT OK LEAVE ME ALONE SOB

Misha Collins plays the angel Castiel on the hit show Supernatural. And Castiel isn't your run of the mill, harps and flowing robes sort of angel. Supernatural's higher beings kick some serious butt. Castiel has dragged Dean (Jensen Ackles) out of hell, has no problem killing innocents for the greater good and according to Collins, has a pretty good tolerance for booze. I got to chat with Collins about what's coming up in the next few episodes, whether Castiel is still a virgin and his many minions on Twitter.
